A New Lavender Glasshouse & Some Stunning Stonework from Chilstone Features In This New Commission

It’s always great to be able to collaborate with friends, and for this most recent garden design in East Sussex, we’ve collaborated with Chilstone who have been commissioned to deliver their beautiful stonework in a garden we’ve installed one of our NGS Lavender glasshouses.

Winter has bitten more than once so far, but we’ve been working through the chills to install a new NGS Lavender glasshouse from our National Gardens Scheme range in this amazing garden in East Sussex. We have also installed Victorian benching internally to give an adaptable and spacious growing space with a traditional design finish.

The garden owners had grand designs for their garden and enlisted our friends at Chilstone to produce a temple with a wrought iron roof as a substantial feature for the garden. The temple was to create a focal point from the house across their land to the beautiful view on the horizon. It has a balustrade surround, tiled floor and slender columns. The structure already looks at home, and would look great with climbing plants.

Chilstone have also supplied vintage garden ornaments in the form of carved stone figures and urns to add as features to the garden. Being weathered, they have already developed a natural patina that makes them look like they have always been there, and they add a classically styled series of garden features to this beautiful space.

The garden is in a small village near Bodiam, a place known for its beautiful intact moated castle. The new glasshouse will be used for propagation, bringing on flower and vegetable seeds and for growing summer crops. The Lavender is one of our larger glasshouses in the National Gardens Scheme range, where 5% of the sale of each glasshouse is donated to the NGS. Measuring 3.6m x 6.5m, there is plenty of internal space in this freestanding design for keen gardeners to choose a layout that suits their needs.

The customer has chosen to include external coldframes and an internal water storage system for harvesting rainwater with no need for unsightly external water butts. We have also installed our stylish Victorian benching and shelving, as well as vine wires and a potting tray to create a useful and adaptable working space for the interior.

With visual interest, structure and form for the garden being provided by Chilstone’s work, we feel that our Lavender glasshouse has gone to a good home!

The Waddesdon Urn – weathered vintage carved stone urns have been supplied for the garden by Chilstone, creating features in corners and nooks of the garden.

The new glasshouse features our stylish Victorian benching, that offers a large potting and growing area within the glasshouse.
